CasualInsider: Private: DRM and Casual Piracy

Well, what should I say? I totally agree with you.

I have some games in my home that demands me to put their original media in order to work. That's very bothersome and, new titles of the same companies are available for pirates almost imediatelly, without this annoying DRM.

The same applies of demanding me to type the serial number upon installation. I think that is ok, if the serial was written on the CD media. But no, I have to store lots of manuals, boxes and cases and any other thing that the manufacturer decides to write the serial number in. My desk is full of this garbage. And again, the pirates does not need to bother with this.

So, if the measure is totally innefective against piracy, why use them in the first place? Will someone that pays for it's software decide to start piracing without it? Most of my friends that don't do piracy like the aditional material (manuals, boxes, and a good quality silver CD media), and like the idea of not be threatened by all kind of viruses and spywares you mentioned about.

My opinion is that the industry should review their prices and payment conditions, specially outside their home countries (Brazil, in my case). And, if a DRM should be used, make it totally non-intrusive, almost invisible. It's very frustrating to know that I paid for a software, and I have much more trouble using it than someone who didn't spent a peny.
